Payments and Makeup Lessons
Individual instruction courses are available in hour and half-hour lessons. Cash-paying students are $50 an hour, and $70 through charter schools. Cash-paying students are $25 for half-hour lessons and $35 through charter schools. The cost will be paid on a month-to-month basis, and the teacher retains the right to raise rates at the beginning of each school semester. Failure to pay for lessons will result in the termination of lessons.
Three makeup lessons per semester are allowed, with the option to reschedule, pay a week less the next month, or save the lesson for the summertime. If it exceeds that limit, funds will not be refunded. If the student does not give 24-hour notice of absence, funds will not be refunded.
Summer Lessons
Lessons are taught year-round, however, if the student or family wishes to drop out for the summer, that is acceptable, however, they may lose their time slot. Lessons during the summer will be paid per lesson with the exception of charter school students.
Practice Requirements
I expect that as my student you will be practicing your music during the week. If a student comes to a lesson without having practiced anything from the previous lesson it is a disservice to the student, and myself. I require that my students practice a minimum of a ½ hour per day, 5 days a week. Exceptions can be made to a set amount, but it must be established between the parents, student, and teacher. Failure to meet these expectations may result in the termination of lessons.
Curriculum & Instruments
The student is responsible for purchasing their own curriculum, including the method book, and various other materials rendered necessary by the teacher. The student is also responsible for owning and maintaining a piano in their home. A keyboard with weighted keys is also acceptable, but not recommended.
Lesson Termination
The teacher has the right to drop a student at any time if there are more than three unexcused absences, and failure to practice. Lessons may also be terminated if students neglect to pay.
Parent Responsibilities and Families in the Studio Space
Parents of beginning students are highly encouraged to sit in lessons, as well as when students practice. Families may come to the studio, but they must sit in the designated waiting area with other children. Lessons will be taught in my home, so it is important to please be respectful of the environment. If you arrive before another lesson is finished, please wait quietly in the lobby before your time to start has arrived.
Philosophy of Teaching
I have two important goals that I wish to achieve in my teaching. I want my students to grow in their abilities, and I want them to have fun learning an instrument! God gave us music, and it’s something that should be enjoyed. Lessons should not be boring, or a weekly chore you have to do because mom or dad is making you. Growth in musical ability is very important, but if it’s boring, and you aren’t enjoying yourself, what’s the point? I expect that my students will focus and work to the best of their ability to learn. A teachable attitude is very important, and as a teacher I want you to know that I will make mistakes as well. My desire is to teach with excellence and to be clear and concise. I also want to be encouraging and joyful, instilling in my students a love for music. My goal as a teacher is that my students might discover joy and passion for music and that they will develop skills which can be used for the rest of their life.
